After a couple of weeks of teasers, Gameloft has finally released the latest installment in the Asphalt series, Asphalt Extreme. Unlike the previous ten games, this title moves the octane-infused action away from busy streets of metropolis cities to dirt roads and macadams of less populated regions of the world. Developers from Gameloft explain this switch as “no roads, no rules.”
The vanilla version of Asphalt Extreme features 35 vehicles, ranging from buggies and SUVs to muscle cars and monster trucks. The car pool is split into seven categories, all of which come with their own sets of races and challenges. Of course, this is still an Asphalt game regardless of the change of scenery, so you’ll still have access to vehicles from some of the biggest brands in the auto industry. The list of licensed manufacturers currently includes Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford, Jeep, and Predator. Apart from a single player campaign, Asphalt Extreme also offers real-time multiplayer for up to eight players.
Despite mostly moving away from urban areas, this is still a fully fledged Asphalt game which means that you’ll visit a variety of exotic locations including the Phuket jungles in Thailand and the Nile Valley. Apart from that, you’ll also get to race across the glaciers of the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard and even perform crazy stunt inside Detroit’s steel mills. Asphalt Extreme also features a robust customization system which will let you improve your vehicles both aesthetically and performance-wise. Regarding other content, the game features five game modes, over 400 Career Events, and more than 500 Mastery Challenges. Of course, Gameloft will also occasionally organize special events with unique prizes so don’t expect to get bored anytime soon. Last but not least, Asphalt Extreme once again pushes boundaries of graphical fidelity on mobile devices as the game looks absolutely amazing.

The game is based on a freemium business model with optional in-app purchases which means that patient mobile gamers won’t have to spend a dime to experience everything it has to offer. On the downside, note that Asphalt Extreme requires a constant Internet connection.
