Google Adds A Little Magic To Android With Ok Google Spells

While there are legions of fans for the Android platform as a mobile operating system, this number of fans likely pales in comparison to the massive following of Harry Potter, and now Google is bringing a little bit of magic from the wizarding world to Android with a few spell casting Ok Google commands. Perhaps part fun and entertainment, and part celebration for the upcoming film based on the latest story from J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (which releases this month on November 18th), Google has made it possible to use the Ok Google voice command to initiate a few different actions on your device.

There are three in total (that are known) which Google mentions, although there’s certainly a possibility that there could be others, but without stating as much users who are interested in discovering whether or not Google has integrated more spells are left with trying out as many as they can muster. To be clear, Google has not said that they have added any more than these three, but curious little wizards will surely want to find out for themselves. As for the already available spell commands, you can say “Ok Google, Lumos!” to initiate turning on the pone’s LED flashlight, and when you’re ready to turn the flashlight back off you can simply say “Ok Google, Nox!” and this will disable it. The last command gives users the ability to turn off their device’s audio by saying the spell “Silencio.”

Alongside these new exciting voice commands Google has also made it possible to explore the world of Fantastic Beasts before users can either see the film or get their hands on the game that will be launching for the upcoming Daydream View VR headset, by way of opening up the Street View app or Street View on a desktop. As the film’s setting takes place in 1926 New York City, this is where the Street View experience will take users, allowing them to visit various locations that will be seen in the film, including an underground speakeasy called The Blind Pig and an apartment that belongs to two major characters. If you fancy yourself a fan of the Harry Potter series and are excited for the upcoming magical stories, you can already start using the new Ok Google commands and exploring the film’s locations in Street View.
