Google Photos is undeniably one of the most popular photo services on the market and it’s no surprise Google wants to keep it this way. As part of its latest efforts, the internet giant has updated the app with a couple of new features and has even launched a new tool designed for Google Photos users dubbed PhotoScan that is available as a separate app.
Starting off with the update to Google Photos, the company has included new editing features in the app, something users are always pleased to see, along with new themes for its Movie feature. As part of the new editing features, Google has decided to increase the number of filters on offer within the app, with the update including more art-inspired features. In addition to this, for users who like to go beyond a filter, the company has also included new slider options which allow users to adjust the “deep blue” colors as well as any skin tones found in photos. Regarding the Movie feature, this is something that is quite popular with users who like to display slideshows of their photos on their computers or TV’s and the new update allows these users to choose between the new Lullaby theme, which is available now, along with festive themes such as Christmas which will be available in December. As the titles suggest, the themes will create slideshows from photos of a user’s baby or from previous Christmas photos, respectively.
Moving away from these smaller updates, the bigger update comes in the form of the new PhotoScan app. With the app, users can scan any old physical photos, which often tend to capture more important life moments, that they may have lying around or in old photo albums and upload them to Google Photos, allowing users to have every single photo in one place. To scan and upload the pictures, Google claims to have used a new technique that is possible thanks to machine learning and allows the pictures to be captured with zero glare by hovering over four white dots that are indicated by the app itself. To many people, the new app will represent a significant time saver and a cheaper option to scan pictures than sending the original prints off to be professionally scanned. Although PhotoScan is a separate app, it is sure to make a number of users happy by finally being able to upload their old photos. This, along with the previously mentioned editing and Movie updates are sure to keep Google Photos users happy until the next update comes along. With Google’s constant updates to the service and a constantly increasing user base, the photo service shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon and appears to have significant advantages over competing services.
