It’s not uncommon for new devices to have bugs and flaws, even major devices like the Google Pixel. They are, after all, electronics. That said, no one hopes to get a device with flaws or expects there to be any when they pick up a new phone, and that’s unfortunately what’s happening for some owners of the Google Pixel who are reporting what are being called “major camera issues” with their phones. The details are all over on the Google Product Forums which seems to have a fairly healthy conversation going on the matter with the initial poster detailing and showing the issues that are popping up.
While not all Google Pixel users are seeing these problems with their cameras, those that do see them are having an understandably frustrating and difficult time with it, as one of the main headlining features of the Pixel has become the camera due to its outstanding quality of images that are produced when you take a picture. According to the original post, the issue is surfacing when users launch the camera app, and is resulting in pink and purple lines showing up on screen just before the app locks up causing the app not to respond.
This would be at the very least a minor inconvenience to be sure, but could be a very big problem for those who rely on their smartphone cameras for their main source for picture taking. While Google Support seems to have given some insight on how to hopefully resolve the issue, which consisted of forcing the camera app to shut down, then clearing the cache and data for the app, and finally uninstalling and reinstalling it, this didn’t seem to work for the initial user reporting the problem who was then directed to backup and restore the device. Unfortunately, it would appear that this didn’t fix the issue either as it persisted. While this is certainly an unfortunate scenario for those who are experiencing it, the good news is that it doesn’t seem to be related to hardware and instead looks to be an issue that resides within the stock camera app that comes with the phone, as users in the comments have noted that third-party camera apps were tried with no problems. There’s no mention of when yet, but this should be fixed with a simple update to the camera app.
