Google’s list of hardware devices shown off back at their October 4th event included a new solution for full home Wi-Fi coverage, and that solution is Google Wifi. A mesh type of wireless network coverage that aims to ensure you don’t have any nooks and crannies in your home that are without a signal and the ability to connect you to the internet. While Google Wifi is still not available to buy, and won’t be until sometime this month with units shipping next month, Google is getting a head start on preparing those potential customers who are interested in the system for configuring the Google Wifi access points around the home and getting everything up to speed.
A new YouTube video on Google’s official channel (which is currently unlisted, but you can see it below) walks you through the steps on how to set up their new mesh wireless router system, which can consist of just one single router, if that’s all you need, or multiple access points if you have a bigger home with more space and more rooms. Th beauty of it all, really, is that like Google’s OnHub router, Google Wifi has its own special application that will literally walk you through each step, so things couldn’t really be any easier short of someone setting things up for you. What’s nice is that the app essentially holds your hand and tells you what to do so you can in fact do everything yourself.
The benefits of setting up the system are that you become familiar with how to work the app should you need to monitor or change things. That being said, the process isn’t that challenging and begins by doing what you would probably expect the first step to be – plugging in the router access point with the included USB Type-C cable that comes with it, then following that up by connecting an ethernet cable from your modem to the access point. From there, simply go through each step in the official Google Wifi app and you’re done. Rinse and repeat (minus the modem connection) for any additional Google Wifi access points that you need to place around the home.
