Hands On With The Huawei PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9

The Huawei PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9 is one of the two devices Huawei has just introduced. This handset was announced alongside the Huawei Mate 9, and both of them are Huawei’s new flagships, though the Mate 9 Porsche Design is a higher-end device, and also a limited edition smartphone. These two phones do share most of their internals, though they’re quite different on the outside, as the Huawei PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9 comes with a curved display, unlike the Huawei Mate 9. In addition to the curved display, the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design also sports a home button below the display, while the Huawei Mate 9 does not.

That being said, we’ve already talked about the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design in our official announcement of this smartphone, and have also talked about its specifications at length. So, what’s the next step? Well, it’s time to take a look at the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design up close and personal. One of our editors is currently over in Munich, Germany, where Huawei introduced their new Mate 9 devices, and he has managed to get some hands-on time with the device, as you can see in the gallery down below. The Huawei PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 9 is made out of metal, and as already mentioned, it sports a home key below the display. Truth be told, this device does resemble the Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 7 and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 when you look at it from the front, but as you can see, it sports quite a recognizable design in general, and it’s quite different than the aforementioned devices in more or less every other way. The device’s power / lock and volume rocker keys are placed on the right side of this device’s body, and the mic and speaker combo is placed on the very bottom of the device, while the USB Type-C port is placed in between them. The phone’s fingerprint scanner is located below the display, as you probably already noticed. These phone’s rear-facing cameras are a pair of Leica cameras while the company has opted to include Sony’s sensors on the inside. The dual-LED flash is also a part of this package, as you can see, and so is the laser autofocus sensor which is placed next to the main camera sensors.

The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design features a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) curved AMOLED display, along with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable internal storage. This phone is fueled by the Kirin 960 64-bit octa-core processor, and it packs in a 4,000 mAh battery on the inside. The 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel camera sensors are located on the back of the phone, and Android 7.0 Nougat comes out of the box on the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 5.0.
