Logitech’s Harmony remotes have been fairly popular recently, with the Harmony Elite being their latest all-in-one remote, it’s popular because it allows you to control just about everything in your home with one remote. And now, you’ll be able to control Android TV with your Logitech Harmony remote. The functionality had been in beta, but it’s now out officially on the Google Play Store. However, it is exclusive to Sony’s Android TV sets. There’s no word on whether it will remain exclusive to Sony’s offerings or if it will eventually open up to the entire Android TV platform.
Setting it up is pretty simple. All you need to do is download the Harmony Android TV app to your Android TV. Then you can pair it with any Logitech Harmony remote (this includes Harmony Elite and Harmony Hub). After that you’ll just need to sign into your existing Harmony account. Now the app is going to show your Harmony Activities, and all of your supported devices will be displayed on your TV. Using this app means that you’ll be able to control your smart home without interrupting what you are currently watching on TV. The Harmony Android TV app also has a tile-based menu that will adjust the lights, turn down the blinds and even adjust the thermostat. Of course, you’ll need smart lights, blinds and thermostats to do this, and they need to be added to the Logitech Harmony remote.
Sony is one of a few TV manufacturers that have really embraced Android TV and have built it into a number of their TV sets. Panasonic has also done the same. Sony’s Android TV sets are all 4K (except for one) and many have HDR included as well. So they are pretty high-end TV sets, and their price definitely reflects that. Logitech Harmony does work with Alexa, so you can actually control your Sony Android TV now with your voice, through Alexa and your Logitech Harmony remote, which is a pretty cool feature. All you need to get started is pick up the Logitech Harmony Elite and Amazon Echo Dot bundle.
