OnePlus may have launched a new flagship called the OnePlus 3T just recently, but that isn’t stopping the Chinese tech startup from rolling out new software to its older devices. The OnePlus 3, which was launched earlier this year, is now reportedly getting an incremental update in India, which brings OxygenOS 3.2.8 to the device. According to a post by a OnePlus staff member on the company’s official forums, the incoming update brings a number of new and interesting features to the smartphone. The update comes with a rather short changelog that mentions 1080p video recording at 60fps, which is a definite improvement from the earlier scenario where fullHD recordings were capped at a maximum of 30fps with the default camera software on the phone.
The official changelog also mentions a few other modifications, including the ability to call emergency numbers just by pressing the power button thrice in quick succession. The new update is also said to optimize the Snapchat app by fixing the video calling and scrolling lags. Apart from that, the changelog also mentions ‘increased system stability’ and ‘general bug fixes’, so users wouldn’t mind seeing the new update on their devices as soon as possible. The company has already started rolling out the FOTA update today, but the post on the OnePlus forum makes it amply clear that only a small number of users will actually be able to get it right now. That’s because as per accepted norms, the new software is being rolled out in a phased manner, and the broader rollout will only begin in the coming days, provided everything goes smoothly.
It is important to note here that the incoming update will not bring Android Nougat to the OnePlus 3. The device, however, is slated to get the latest version of Android by the end of this year, and some reports have even claimed that the update may come this month itself. The head of software at OnePlus, Mr. Brian Yoon, recently confirmed that older devices like the OnePlus 2 will also be updated to Nougat, but he did not give out an ETA for the rollout.
