With the Galaxy Note 7 permanently out of commission, Samsung has been trying to keep people interested in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge by offering these two devices in new color options. Although still very capable, both these handsets have been getting a little long in the tooth, having been unveiled as far back as February of this year at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. To keep the public’s interest alive in what are now essentially the latest premium Samsung smartphones available in the market, the South Korean electronics giant is now expected to come up with a new Glossy Black model of the Galaxy S7, if reports carried by sections of the South Korean media are anything to go by.
Samsung had earlier announced a Blue Coral version of the Galaxy S7 Edge to go with the Black Onyx, Silver Titanium and Gold Platinum models that have been available for purchase for months now. As for the upcoming option, the device is expected to be launched in the coming weeks, with an early-December release date being touted as a distinct probability. The device is believed to come with a finish that will apparently be shinier than the current Black Onyx model, but there’s no word on whether it will be available only in South Korea or if Samsung will also consider launching it in other markets around the world. In terms of hardware, the upcoming model is expected to be identical to the currently available versions, with the only change being the outer finishing.
Samsung, of course, has been launching smartphones made out of metal over the past couple of years, ditching the plastic build of the Galaxy S5 for a glass and metal design on its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge that were launched back in 2015. The company carried on with its newfound appreciation for metal with the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ late last year, and with the shiny new Galaxy S7 devices that were originally unveiled earlier this year. It remains to be seen, though, whether these new color options will be able to help Samsung somehow maintain its lead in the global smartphone market until it is ready with its next-generation of flagships that are expected to be announced early next year.
