Sponsored Review: Wondershare TunesGo – 11/01/16

Everyone wants all of their music, photos and other data on their phone at all times. Especially since smartphones are replacing laptops and desktops for many people these days. With many smartphones supporting micro SD cards up to 256GB, it makes sense to have your entire music library – or at least the majority of it – on your smartphone. But how do you transfer all of it over to your device? Well there are a few ways, but the easiest way might be using TunesGo from Wondershare.

You can download TunesGo from Wondershare’s website. There is a free trial for TunesGo, and then the price starts at $29.95 for a 1 year license. You can get a license that works for just Android or just iOS or one that works with both smartphone platforms. Useful if you use both platforms, or are constantly switching between the two. TunesGo does work with virtually every Android and iOS device. As it is compatible with anything running Android 2.2 or later, as well as iPhone’s, iPad’s and iPod Touch’s running iOS 5 and later. Those with the older iPods, like the iPod Classic, iPod Nano, and iPod Shuffle, you’ll need iPod OS 1.0 or later for the Alternative to iTunes.

All you need to do to get started here is plug in your device using the USB port on your PC. For Android, you will need to turn on USB Debugging. You’ll then need to give your computer permission to use the device you have plugged in with USB Debugging. And from there you’re basically all set and ready to start transferring stuff over. If you use iTunes, you can quickly transfer your entire library on over to the device – which you can choose to transfer to the internal storage or the micro SD card. If you don’t use iTunes, you can also simply choose the music that is on your laptop to copy to your device. It’s quite easy, actually. You can do the same for videos. You can also transfer videos from your phone to the laptop to back them up, if you’re worried about losing them.

If you aren’t a big fan of saving your photos into the cloud using Google Photos, you can back them up onto your computer and save them wherever you want. It’s a bit safer, and gives users a better peace of mind, in the long run. You can choose to back up everything, or just specific folders. TunesGo will show you what pictures are on your smartphone, based on the folders they are in. Remember that most apps save pictures into different folders. Like WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.

There is also the information tab, which will allow you to import contacts to your phone much easier. This is especially useful if you haven’t saved your contacts through your Google account. As it’ll be easier than re-entering them all individually. You can also export them to save on your computer. Just in case something happens to your smartphone, you still have all of your contacts available. When it comes to SMS, you can also import or export these messages. If you’re someone who wants to keep all of your SMS, this can be especially useful.

The apps section is a bit of an interesting beast. It allows you to install APK’s that you have already downloaded to your PC. You can also remotely uninstall your apps from your smartphone through your PC. If you need to do a quick reset on your smartphone, you can opt to export all of your apps and then reinstall them later on. A pretty cool feature, but probably one that you won’t use that often.

Finally we have the Explorer and Toolbox. Explorer is pretty simple, it allows you to navigate through all of the folders available on your smartphone. So you’ll be able to quickly pull out your screenshots, or pictures, or whatever else is on your phone. There are a couple of neat tools available in ‘Toolbox’. One is the One-click Root, allowing you to quickly root your device and get even more out of your phone. The other is the GIF Maker, which essentially makes GIFs out of your photos and videos saved on your smartphone.

Ratings

  • Speed (3/5) – The speed of TunesGo could be a bit faster. It can sometimes take a bit to actually recognize your device. It also takes a few minutes to load up different parts of the program, like photos, music, and apps.
  • Theme (3/5) – It doesn’t have the best design, in fact it doesn’t look all that great. But for what it lacks in looks, it makes up for in features and usability which is really what counts.
  • Features (5/5) – There are loads of features here. With a name like “TunesGo” you’d expect it to really only allow you to transfer music to and from your device, but it does a whole lot more than that. Allowing you to transfer pictures, contacts, messages, apps, and everything in between.
  • Overall (4/5) – Overall, there’s not much more you could ask for out of TunesGo. It does everything that it says it does, and does it well.

Pros

  • Easy to use, it’s always great to pick up a new piece of software and not need to worry about reading a manual to figure out how to use it.
  • Transferring pictures has never been easier. Choose the pictures you want to export to your PC and voila you’re all set. It really can’t get any easier
  • Everything n TunesGo is straight up. There’s nothing hidden, making you hunt to find a feature or anything like that. Which is definitely appreciated.

Cons

  • A one-year license for Android is $29.95, and an unlimited license is $39.95. That’s a bit pricey for what this program does.
  • Doesn’t work natively with other music services, other than iTunes – something that most Android users likely won’t be using.

TunesGo is a pretty great piece of software to use. Especially if you are switching from one phone to another. However, in this day and age, it’s a bit tough to gauge how often this might get used. When you have a lot of cloud services that will back up photos and music and such for you, without needing to be connected to a laptop or desktop. Perhaps if TunesGo allowed you to do a one-click backup of your entire smartphone, that would be totally different. Nevertheless, it is a good program to use to transfer files from one mobile device to another, or even back things up individually.
