Verizon seems to be on a roll when it comes to scoring exclusivity on products lately with being the only U.S. carrier to officially sell the Pixel and Pixel XL(although it’s capable of being used on all carriers as it is unlocked), and now with nabbing exclusive access to provide exciting VR content based on the upcoming Star Wars film called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The content will be called Rogue One: A Star Wars 360 Experience, as it will be an immersive 360-degree affair, and it’ll be available to view through Samsung’s Gear VR headsets in the very near future.
According to Verizon, the content will be available to view on their Facebook page come November 14th, so, technically anyone should be able to go to Verizon’s Facebook page and check out this new 360-degree experience regardless of what carrier they have. Beginning from today, though, and heading through till November 13th, the Rogue One: A star Wars 360 Experience will be available to view with Samsung’s Gear VR headsets exclusively in Verizon retail stores, so anyone who is a Verizon customer or visits a Verizon store should be able to view the content early before it hits the web.
The Rogue One: A Star Wars 360 Experience was created by ILMxLAB which is owned by LucasFilm. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because the same team partnered up with HTC back in March for the Trials On Tatooine Star Wars VR experience which was exclusively available via the HTC Vive VR headset. Verizon hasn’t given much detail on what this Rogue One experience offers, but they have stated that users who give the experience a try will be immersed in the vastness of space as the pilot of an X-wing ship, and that they’ll have a wingman and an R2 Droid by their side. Those who want to know more now before it hits the Verizon Facebook page will need to travel to a Verizon retail store to experience it first hand, and Verizon states that it will be available in 1,400 stores in the U.S., so there is a pretty good chance that there is one locally for most people.
