Whether most people know it or not, VR (virtual reality) is all the rage right now, especially with the continuing expansion of the market through new headsets and devices that are releasing as the year goes on. Sony’s PlayStation VR recently launched last month and is already doing fairly well for itself, but, we’re not here to talk about the PlayStation VR. We’re here to discuss another couple of headsets – The HTC Vive, manufactured by HTC with software handled by Valve, and the Daydream View, Google’s first Daydream VR headset. Both are geared towards slightly different groups, as the HTC Vive is certainly capable of putting out a much more powerful experience in terms of the content that can be enjoyed, but this is solely for the fact that it needs to be connected to a PC to enjoy the content.
With the Pixel and the Daydream View, everything is powered by the phone, and although the games, and other content may not be as visually groundbreaking and impressive as with the HTC Vive, it’s more mobile, and comes in at a lower price making it ever more affordable. Both, though, are sure to offer up some really great experiences, and those experiences are only going to get better as more and more content is released for each device. With so much emphasis on VR right now we know that some of you, like us, are quite interested in the platform and would love to spend a little more time immersed in what VR has to offer. So, we’re curious. Which would you prefer to win in a contest – The Google Pixel and a Daydream View headset, or the HTC Vive? On one hand, you have a VR headset powered by a mobile device that allows you to more easily take your VR experiences with you, backed by a growing wealth of content from the Play Store, and on the other hand you have an extremely powerful VR headset where the experience is driven by the PC it’s connected to, with a wealth of content from PC gaming’s biggest content marketplace – Steam.
