Yahoo Has Added App Shortcuts To Their Official Mail App

Android 7.1 Nougat has brought forth a few changes to the Android operating system, and now that it’s available to manufacturers and developers, the race is on to add support for products. For developers, this means making sure that their apps support Android 7.1, as well as take advantage of its beneficial new features. Yahoo Mail has updated their official app today to do just that – support the latest version of Android Nougat and make use of the special improvements that come along with the software. Most notably, perhaps, is the ability to use app shortcuts, which you can now do for Yahoo Mail just as you can with many of Google’s core applications. These also aren’t the first Nougat features which were made available, as Yahoo Mail recently added support for multi-window last month.

Thanks to the new App Shortcuts support, Yahoo Mail users can long press on the home screen icon for the application to reveal a handful of options, including sending a composing a new message, searching Yahoo Mail, and creating a note for themselves. On top of all of this, the App Shortcuts also allow users to take any one of these shortcuts and make a home screen widget for it for quick access to just that specific action within the app but without having to open up the app to get to it.

Alongside the app shortcuts that are now available for users on Android 7.1 Nougat, Yahoo Mail also supports quick adding of GIF images and stickers to emails using the latest Google Keyboard version. To get to these when composing or replying to an email, users simply need to hit the smiley button on the keyboard to bring up sticker, image, and GIF options, and go from there. This is likely to be useful in situations here and there, especially if the emails you’re looking to include them in are a little more lighthearted. Continuing with what’s new for Android 7.1 Nougat devices, round icons are here, but as stated this is an Android 7.1 Nougat and above feature only. That said, Yahoo Mail’s latest update also includes one new feature for users on Android KitKat and above, which is ability to share contact cards. Inside of the app there will now be a new share option in contact cards that allow you to share the details of that contact card with outside apps. You’ll also have the option to simply copy those details and then paste them if you’re looking to share it with an app, but still need to share it with someone. The update should already be live for all users, and for new users you can grab the app from the Play Store button below.
