One of the big trends of late is live streaming. Whether it be streaming your gaming antics over the likes of Twitch, streaming your attendance somewhere over Periscope or streaming just about anything at all over Facebook. It would seem that streaming is not only a popular option to do, but is also a popular option for viewers to partake in. That is largely why YouTube has today announced that going forward you will be able to watch live streamed content via YouTube in glorious 4K. What’s more, 4K live streaming support will be available to 360-degree videos, as well as the standard YouTube videos
Needless to say, the benefits of such a move for content providers does mean that those who follow a channel or a specific live event will be able to enjoy the live feeds at an unrivaled resolution. Which should help to differentiate some content providers from others and up the quality of their product and channel overall. Although, this is also likely to be a welcomed move by those who own 4K-supported TVs and devices, as the amount of available 4K content has been somewhat limited up until now. Not to mention, with other live streaming services not offering 4K live streams, this will also be good for YouTube in general – as it will give the video streaming service an advantage over those other services and especially when it comes to the biggest and best live streaming events which might be shown via multiple different video services and at the same time.
Speaking of which, kicking off YouTube’s newly added 4K support is the Game Awards which is due to take place at 9 pm EST (6 pm PST) tomorrow, December 1. So if you are interested in checking out live streamed content in 4K on YouTube, then this will likely be your first opportunity to do so, as according the YouTube blog, the entire show will be available in 4K resolution. If nothing else, the newly added support will look to ensure that the video content consumed on YouTube is as clear and as good as it can be. That is, as long as you do have a 4K screen to actually take advantage of the newly-added support.
