The Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick are some of the best set-top boxes and HDMI streamers that money can buy right now. Amazon has been working hard on their set-top box to make it the perfect one available, and they’ve come pretty close. It supports virtually any app you can think of, including AT&T’s brand new DIRECTV NOW (which only works on Fire TV and the Apple TV). And coming in at $89, it’s one of the cheapest set-top boxes around as well. When Amazon announced their newest Fire TV Stick in the Fall, they debuted a brand new interface for Fire TV, and now that new interface is beginning to roll out to existing Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users.
The updated interface makes the Fire TV look a bit like Netflix, Amazon’s aim here was to make it a bit more cinematic, but also make it easier to use. With the updated interface, you’ll see the standard navigation at the top of the screen for Home, Your Videos, Movies, TV Shows, Apps and Settings. Below that you’ll see two rows. One shows suggestions for you to watch next, and below that is your favorite apps and games on Fire TV. Now this row can be customized to your liking, something that certain other set-top boxes don’t allow for. After you’ve finished watching an episode of a TV Show or a movie, Amazon will add a third row that shows Prime shows like the one you just watched (or movies, if you just finished a movie). The Fire TV Stick is also getting the update, rolled out over the air – that is for those with the older model. The Fire TV Stick is another great buy, coming in at just $49. Its about the price of the Roku Express, but it is more expensive than Chromecast. Although it can arguably do a bit more than Chromecast can. You can check for the update on your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick by jumping into the settings and checking for an update. It should be available soon.
