The South Korean industry sources have been quite busy these last few days. Only 24 hours after leaking the first renders of the new Samsung Galaxy A3, the very same sources have published renders depicting a new smartphone made by LG. Now, initial reports suggest that while this device is yet to receive an official name, it’s most likely going to be called the LG V5. Alternative names include the LG LV1 and the LG LV5, though both of these are likely just codenames.
While the LG V lineup is mostly known for its excellent camera capabilities, the device which you can see in the gallery below doesn’t look like a flagship. Quite the contrary, in fact; the LG V5 apparently features a plastic body with a removable battery. From the design perspective, this is a rather simple-looking phone with rounded edges and a slightly curved back panel. The display which you can see below is reportedly 5.3-inches in size, though no specific resolution has been rumored. Regarding other details, the renders showcase a standard micro-USB port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a small speaker located on the back of the device. Furthermore, the LG V5 is estimated to be 148.65 x 75.30 x 7.5 mm in size, while its thickness goes up to 8 mm near the top because the back panel of the device is slightly curved.
Now, were it not for what looks like a fingerprint reader on the back of this phone, one would be quick to assume that this is just a regular mid-range device. However, that’s still the most likely scenario. Namely, as fingerprint scanner prices have been steadily decreasing throughout the year, it’s not surprising to see a mid-range smartphone equipped with this piece of hardware which was so far mostly reserved for premium phones. Last but not least, all of the rumored names of this device seemingly point to the fact that it’s less powerful than the recently released LG V20 flagship, and even last year’s LG V10. Of course, given how these leaks are as unofficial as they can be, we still have no idea when this device may be hitting the market, though 2017 seems like a safe bet.
