Google has confirmed which watches will get Android 2.0 in 2017, and the list is fairly extensive and seemingly covers just about every device that’s ever been released, save for some of the oldest models. The list of smartwatches to get the upgrade follows an earlier report from Google’s Product Manager that the software update will be pushed out sometime in Q1 of next year alongside two new Android Wear smartwatches, as well as a report stating that Android Wear 2.0 will introduce Android Pay to the platform making it much easier to make mobile payments without having to pull your phone out of your pocket.
For the most part, judging by the list it seems that almost every Android Wear smartwatch will be updated to the latest version of software except for the first generation devices. So the update excludes the original Moto 360, the LG G Watch, the Samsung Gear Live, and the ASUS ZenWatch, and it looks like it also excludes the likes of the Sony Smartwatch 3. This means that the Moto 360 2nd Gen and the Moto 360 Sport will be both be getting the Android Wear 2.0 treatment, as well as other 1st Gen successors such as the ASUS ZenWatch 2.
The three most recent watches from LG will be getting the bump, so any owners of the LG Watch Urbane and Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, as well as the G Watch R, can all expect to see Android Wear 2.0’s software benefits, and Fossil’s first watch, the Q Wander, will be updated as well. All of the watches listed so far have been devices that were released a while ago, so it only makes sense that most of the recent watches that were launched this year, like the ASUS ZenWatch 3, the Fossil Q Founder and Q Marshall, as well as the watches from Casio, Polar, Nixon, and TAG Heuer. Both the standard version and the ladies version of the Huawei Watch are confirmed to get the update, and of course, two of the latest smartwatches to hit the Google Store, the Micahel Kors Access Dylan and Access Bradshaw will be pushed forward to Android Wear 2.0 along with all of the others. Although Google has confirmed which watches will get the update, they haven’t mentioned any details on which smartwatches will get the update first or what the timeline will be for each model, or when the exact dates are, so for now all that’s known is which watches will be moving to Android Wear 2.0 and which ones won’t be, as well as a general Q1 time frame.
