Google has officially announced their new Google Wallet web app today and have stated that it’s available across all browsers and platforms, meaning the web app will look the same whether you’re on a Windows desktop, a Chromebook, in an iPhone browser, or in a browser on an Android device, making the experience pretty much seamless no matter where choose to access your account. While Google is officially announcing the launch of the new web app today, which of course comes with a new design, this is not the first time the new look for Google Wallet on the web has appeared.
Back in the very beginning of November the new design was starting to be ushered in, so there are likely quite a few Google Wallet users who are already used to the app’s new style. The visual changes, for those that haven’t seen the new look before, include the hamburger menu on the left hand side that sits in the top corner and the deeper green that can be found in various Google Android apps like Hangouts, the Play Store, and, Google Wallet. The new web app also more or less mirrors (to a point) the design of the Android version.
The new design comes with new features too, the most notable of which is the “request money” feature which was completely absent from the web app back in November when the new design first started showing up for users. Now that the request money feature is live using Google wallet for transactions between friends and family has never been easier, it also makes it less likely that the person who owes you money will forget to pay you back as you can simply send them a request for the owed amount, and if you’re person who owes then you can also receive requests. Google says payments can be made without leaving the browser and people paying you back don’t even have to have a Google Wallet account, and when payments come in they will transfer out of Google Wallet automatically if you have a default payment method setup, which is basically an account for the money to transfer into.
