Android 7.0 Nougat is close to being the hottest thing in Android right now, and it’s still making its way out to most of the devices that are slated to get the update. For HTC, the next device to get the bump up in software versions looks to be the unlocked model of the One M9, which they state will start to get the update later on this evening. The news comes from HTC’s own Mo Versi over on Twitter, although it isn’t mentioned exactly what time the updates will start rolling out to users. With that being said, one can only assume that it might start happening within the next few hours, although it should be remembered that the beginning of the update push does not mean all users will have it before the evening is over.
Currently the unlocked HTC One M9 is sitting on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, so the jump to Nougat will bring along some great little features and improvements, although all of the changes won’t be clear until either HTC posts a changelog or the details are made public by users who have gotten the update themselves. There are some specifics though that will be available for anyone on Nougat, which also means those users with the One M9, such as the improved Doze Mode that seeks to extend the battery life of the device. Another feature that has long been sought by plenty of Android users is multi-window, and with Nougat this is one of the biggest changes to the software, although not all apps currently support it.
The HTC One M9 follows its successor, the HTC 10, when it comes to the Nougat update, as HTC reportedly began sending the update out to this year’s flagship back on November 25th, and the unconfirmed HTC Ocean device has been rumored to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Naturally, with a mention of the unlocked model getting the update tonight, there are plenty of questions from users about the locked carrier models of the device and when they will get the same software treatment. Right now there doesn’t seem to have been any responses to these questions, but then again the carriers are the ones that handle these updates, and not HTC.
