Leak: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X To Sport Snapdragon 653 Chip

Rumored images and hardware specs of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X has allegedly leaked online, adding further credence to earlier reports that the Chinese tech company is indeed preparing to bring an all-new Redmi series handset to the market as a follow up to its Redmi Note 4 smartphone that was launched a few months earlier. The leaked image is in the form of a screenshot that apparently shows the ‘About Phone’ section of the upcoming Xiaomi handset. As you can see, much of the text is in Chinese, but it is pretty evident that the new device will be a slightly beefed-up version of the Redmi Note 4 that is currently available for purchase in China.

The Redmi Note 4X, as can be seen from the image above, will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which is certainly interesting, seeing as the Redmi series is strictly positioned in the mid-range. The device is also heavily rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 chip that comes with an integrated octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2GHz. For context, the original Redmi Note 4 comes with a MediaTek Helio X20 chip under the hood, and with just 3GB of RAM in its top-spec variant. It is worth noting that Xiaomi has thus far been unable to launch the Redmi Note 4 in India because of an ongoing legal skirmish with Ericsson that prevents the Chinese tech giant from launching MediaTek-powered devices in the country over patent-related disputes.

Now that a Snapdragon-powered 4th-generation Redmi Note is in the pipeline, it is very likely that Xiaomi will launch it in its largest market outside China. Having said that though, the very existence of the rumored Snapdragon-powered Redmi Note 4X is yet to be confirmed by Xiaomi officially, so we might have to wait a while longer to find out what the company has in store for us. The Redmi Note 3, however, is one of the best-selling smartphones in India, and was recently declared the best-selling smartphone model in the country ever. The company is believed to have sold over 3 million units of the popular device in India so far, and the launch of the Redmi Note 4X should only help Xiaomi become an even more popular brand in the country going forward.
