After launching in the West in early November, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro is now also available in China. Lenovo will be selling the first phone using Google’s Tango technology for 3,999 Yuan, which amounts to approximately $575. Chinese consumers can already pre-order the device, or opt to wait until Monday, December 26th when the Lenovo Phab2 Pro will be available for purchase from all Lenovo stores in the country. In addition to that, the device will be sold by Jingdong Mall, a Beijing-based online retailer.
Lenovo initially unveiled this original device back in mid-2016 at Lenovo Tech World. The Phab2 Pro was presented as a revolutionary phone utilizing Google’s Tango platform. Originally called Project Tango, this Google-made technology is packed with a broad range of augmented reality (AR) functionalities allowing for a wide variety of unique uses. Among other things, the Phab2 Pro allows users to measure real-world objects or engage in an innovative brand of shopping enabling them to see how certain appliances would look in their homes before they buy them. Not surprisingly, like most other AR and VR solutions, Tango is currently mostly utilized by various innovative games like Phantogeist, Raise, and Woorld.
On the hardware side of things, this device is a flagship in every sense of that word. For starters, it features a 6.4-inch IPS display boasting a resolution of 2048 by 1080 pixels. Furthermore, the Phab2 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 system-of-chip featuring a quad-core CPU with four 1.8GHz Cortex-A72 cores designed for performance, and four 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 cores made for standard usage. The said chipset also boasts the Adreno 510 GPU and is backed by 4GB of RAM. If 64GB of internal storage isn’t enough, the phone also comes packed with a microSD card slot which supports up to 256GB of additional memory.
Naturally, seeing how this is an AR-oriented device, the Phab2 Pro is equipped with three rear cameras which support depth and motion tracking, as well as phase detection autofocus. The main rear camera boasts a 16-megapixel sensor, while the front one is an 8-megapixel shooter. All of that hardware is powered by a 4050mAh battery capable of fast charging. In overall, the Phab2 Pro is an unconventional device made for people looking for a unique Android experience and a glimpse into the future of augmented reality.
