It’s been over five months since Pokemon GO started rolling out worldwide and while Niantic Labs’ augmented reality (AR) mobile game isn’t as popular as it used to be, its developers are hard at working bringing back old players and attracting new ones. In addition to new content, this endeavor also encompasses all kinds of partnerships such as the one Niantic just announced with Sprint, the fourth largest wireless carrier in the United States. Apart from announcing Sprint-sponsored Gyms and a unique Pokemon GO experience for all Sprint customers, the Kansas-based carrier also suggested that Niantic will be adding new pocket monsters to the popular mobile game next Monday, December 12th.
Following that statement, The Pokemon Company and Niantic Labs published a short release in which they’ve clarified on what Sprint announced earlier today. More specifically, the two firms stated that next Monday won’t be the day when new Pokemon will be added to Pokemon GO, but the day when developers will reveal details on these new additions. In other words, we should know more in five days, but there’s still no word on when the second generation of pocket monsters will be added to the game. In fact, it’s not even official that Pokemon GO will be updated with the second generation of Pokemon, it’s just what everyone is assuming will happen. As a matter of fact, it’s possible that Niantic is about to announce the inclusion of the five legendary Pokemon from the first generation of pocket monsters that are yet to debut in the game.
However, in the context of a recent breakdown of the latest APK version of Pokemon GO, it seems likely that Niantic Labs’ popular mobile game will indeed be updated with the so-called “Gen 2.” More specifically, a group of enthusiasts found references to all second generation monsters in the game’s code, adding that another client-side update will be required before these creatures make their in-game debut. Namely, none of the new Pokemon referenced in the game’s code are connected to any attacking commands, so it wouldn’t be possible to use them in battle without updating the game once more. In any case, more details should be known by Monday.
