TWRP has quickly become the preferred custom recovery choice for most people, after ClockworkMod sort of, kinda stopped supporting newer devices. For those that may be unaware, TWRP stands for TeamWin Recovery Project, and it’s a great custom recovery that most people who tinker with their Android devices use these days. The team has now released their own app onto the Play Store. There have been other apps on the Play Store, but they weren’t “official” apps, however this one is.
Just as you’d expect from TWRP, this app allows you to do things like flashing custom ROMs, kernels and more, directly from the app. As opposed to going into recovery and flashing it all yourself. The app will ask you to select your device and then select the file you want to flash onto said device. From there it’ll take care of the rest. Allowing you to sit back and just wait. It can also alert you to when there is a new version of TWRP available for your device, so you can stay up-to-date with the latest version of TWRP’s custom recovery for your smartphone. That is actually about all the app does right now. TWRP will likely come out with some more features for the app in the near future, as this is their first production release of the TWRP app, things are still a bit rough so expect bugs and such with this app.
The app is pretty small and doesn’t do a whole lot, but for flashaholics, this is a pretty big deal. As always, it’s encouraged to send feedback to the developers so they can work to make the app even better. The app doesn’t require root to check for the versions, but to do any flashing it will need root access, obviously. If you haven’t rooted your device, then this app is going to essentially be useless to you, since you can’t flash anything without root. The app is completely free, without any in-app purchases, which is always nice to see, and can be downloaded from Google Play using the link down below.
