Plex has been turning up the heat this season by adding enhancements to improve their service, and just in time too, as the weather starts to get a lot colder and many people will undoubtedly be spending quite a bit more time indoors trying to stay warm, while also probably enjoying their favorite movies and TV shows at the same time. Today, Plex has just started rolling out the update to their Plex for Android application which bumps the app up to version 5.2, and introduces the ability for the app to sync with adoptable storage, a feature which has never worked until now, likely causing a few headaches for those who use the storage feature.
Of course, this app update also follows a new feature addition to the Plex service overall from just a few days ago called Plex Cloud, which allows users to stream media from places like Google Drive and Dropbox. As for the app update, in addition to adoptable storage syncing, there is actually quite a large list of new changes and fixes to make for a more well-rounded and overall improved user experience. Among these new changes is an option for those using Plex on Android TV. Now, when using the location picker and choosing a new location, Plex has added in the ability to jump directly to the library hub. Whether or not this is a really minor new change depends on how often you go to library hub, and perhaps how long you’ve been wanting to have it available when switching the location from which you’re grabbing media.
For mobile devices using the Android app, there is now an ability to access an options menu from the search results, and if you’re someone who uses Plex for streaming audio, lyrics should now be much easier to see as Plex updated the app to show these more clearly. While there aren’t many mobile-facing changes that are directly and exclusively improving the experience just for the mobile version of the app, there are numerous changes for the Android TV version in addition to the library hub including interface improvements. By default, the Android TV app would fall back to an insecure connection. This no longer happens, and you can essentially wipe your user settings clear by simply signing out of the application, which should be fairly useful for anyone who shares the Plex app with other users in the home.
