Rumor: OnePlus 5 Coming In 2017, OnePlus To Skip OnePlus 4

OnePlus had introduced two flagship smartphones this year, the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. These two smartphones look identical, even their dimensions are the same, but the OnePlus 3T arrived a couple of months after the OnePlus 3, and sports higher-end specs on the inside. The OnePlus 3T comes with a larger battery, better front-facing camera, more powerful SoC and a sapphire camera lens on the back, while you also have the option to purchase a 128GB storage model of this smartphone, which was not the case with the OnePlus 3. That being said, the OnePlus 4 is expected to arrive in June next year, but if the new rumor is to be believed, OnePlus could opt to skip the OnePlus 4 naming, read on.

A new OnePlus rumor just surfaced, and it suggests that the next OnePlus flagship could be called the OnePlus 5, which means that the company could skip the OnePlus 4 naming. In addition to that, the rumor says that the OnePlus 5 will be made out of ceramic. You might wonder why would OnePlus skip the OnePlus 4 naming, well, the number 4 is considered to be unlucky in China, which could be a reason behind this move. To add some more fuel to this rumor, it is worth mentioning that Vivo skipped the Vivo V4 naming in order to launch the Vivo V5 after the Vivo V3, and both Vivo and OnePlus are owned by BBK Electronics. Now, this does not exactly confirm this rumor, but it sure gives it at least some legibility.

Furthermore, the same company that supplied ceramic for the Xiaomi Mi MIX could supply such materials for the OnePlus 5, rumor says. This would not be the first OnePlus-branded smartphone to ship with a ceramic body, the OnePlus X was available in a ceramic variant, so OnePlus knows what they’re doing here. The OnePlus 5 will ship with Android Nougat out of the box, and on top of it, you’ll get OnePlus’ OxygenOS UI, of course. The phone will, allegedly, ship with a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, 6GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Do take all this info with a grain of salt as this is just a rumor at this point.
