These days, our data kept on computers can be some of the most important data we have. We use our computers for work, for school, and of course for our personal everyday lives, and no matter which you use it for the most, chances are that you have stuff on your computer that don’t want to lose. For those that use programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or zip files, it can be a hugely inconvenient situation when one of those files gets corrupted and you can’t access any of the information within those files. If for example, you have a zip file that contains all of your documents for a particular business presentation that you spent countless hours putting together, it would be unfortunate if you weren’t able to access any of it because the zip file was corrupted. In the unfortunate event that something like this happens, that’s where a program like Wondershare Microsoft File Repair comes in handy, as it’s meant to help you repair these corrupted files. How does it stack up and how does it work? Let’s take a look.

Before you can actually get to repairing any corrupted files you may have, you’ll need to head to the Wondershare website and download Wondershare Microsoft File Repair and install it.

Microsoft File Repair

Now, you might be wondering what causes corruption in zip files, Excel files, and other Microsoft files from their Office apps, and there are a number of different reasons, such as shutting down your system improperly, file sizes that are too large and can’t handle the amount of information that’s stored in them, and of course viruses. These can all potentially cause a file to end up corrupted. Thankfully there are programs like this one which can repair them.

After installation, using the app is fairly simple. Upon opening it up, you’ll see a small prompt window that opens up with four buttons, one for each type of file – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Zip.

Clicking on one of these will open up the main view of the program, and in it another window will be opened that will show you all available Zip files that can be repaired. For these to show up, you’ll either need to have the program scan for zip files, or hit the “select file” or “select folder” buttons to grab the Zip file you need if you know exactly where it is.

Once a file has been repaired you’ll end up on a screen with the log report of all the data that’s contained within the Zip file (or any of the other file types if those are the ones you’ve personally repaired) and up top you’ll also have a chance to save those repaired files so you can work with them again. It is worth noting that, if you want to save the repaired files which were previously corrupt, you’ll need to register the software, which does cost money, but you can work with the free trial version to test the software and see how it works, and figure out if it works for you.

Now when it comes to the actual repair, in the case of Zip files, Wondershare Microsoft File Repair will make sure that your corrupted Zip files are repaired while fixing incompatible compression, incomplete file downloads, bad sectors on the disk, and file corruption that was caused by a virus. In the case of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, the repair will fix all those file types while keeping the information intact and the way that it was before the corruption took place. This means that for a Word file, for example, any text, images, formatting and other elements that are in the file will be just as they were when you created the Word document. The same goes for Excel spreadsheets, as none of the data will be out of place, and cell formatting will be just as you left it. You’ll also get a preview of the content before saving, so you know that things look as they should. The software isn’t overly complex and is pretty simple to use, and even though it isn’t designed to do a whole bunch of stuff, it does what it’s supposed to and does it without much effort on the user’s part.

Ratings

  • Speed (4.5/5) – The app opens up pretty quickly and is fairly fast at completing the file repairs.
  • Theme (4/5) – The theme is simple and uncluttered. There are no special graphics or visuals, but then again there doesn’t need to be for software of this nature.
  • Features (4/5) – The app is simplified and provides just what it needs to. It serves it purpose and does a good job of it.
  • Overall (4/5) – This is a nice piece of software that can be extremely useful if you’re in a bind and need to fix important files.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Quick to use
  • Repairs are pretty fast
  • Files are repaired with everything as they were before the corruption

Cons

  • There’s no option for saving repaired files in the trial version even on a temporary basis, which might not work for some people. That being said this is also clearly stated in the trial instructions.

There is little you can do if you end up with a corrupted file that holds important data and information. Unless you have the right tool to help you fix things. Wondershare Microsoft File Repair is that tool and if you frequently work with Microsoft’s Office software as well as Zip files, then there is a chance you have run into a corrupted file or two. It happens, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it slide. This software was mostly self explanatory and didn’t require a lot on my part to get things done, I simply needed to select the file I wanted repaired and the software took care of the rest. If you have a need for software in this particular area, then it’s worth checking out the trial to see if it’s able to fix any of your corrupted files.
