Spotify Now Available On The Samsung Gear S3 Smartwatch

While it’s a shame that Spotify wasn’t available on the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch as soon as the said wearable hit the market last month, the good news is that the popular streaming service is now finally available on both the Gear S3 Classic and the Gear S3 Frontier. In fact, as of today, Spotify is also available for download on the last year’s Gear S2 smartwatch.

In accordance to what Samsung and Spotify announced back in August, the Tizen version of the app enables users to control the Spotify Android app directly from their supported smartwatch and even use the said wearable to stream music. Unfortunately, it seems that the initial release of the app doesn’t support offline playlists, which is a feature Samsung previously announced. So, it would appear that the said functionality will be included in a future update. For the time being, the Tizen version of this software offers a Remote Mode which allows you to control the Spotify app on your phone, and one or two streaming options depending on the exact model of your watch. Namely, the Gear S3 Classic owners will only see the Wi-Fi streaming option, while the Gear S3 Frontier users will also be able to stream Spotify directly from their watch over an LTE connection. The latter functionality is referred to in the app as the ‘Gear Mode’. Of course, expect to incur data charges if you choose this option.

The Spotify app can be downloaded from the Galaxy Apps Store which you can access from the Gear Manager application installed on the Gear S2 or the Gear S3. Note that the rollout started today, so it’s possible that you won’t be able to download Spotify to your Gear smartwatch for a few days. According to Samsung, the app should roll out worldwide by the end of the week. However, several Reddit users have already reported that Spotify is available for download from the Galaxy Apps Store in the United States and the United Kingdom. Of course, note that the Tizen Spotify app won’t launch in territories where this service has yet to make an official debut, but luckily, the list of countries not supported by Spotify continues to get shorter on a monthly basis.
