It’s been a while since wireless phone chargers became available to consumers and while there’s obviously still room for this technology to improve, it seems that people are generally rather satisfied with it. In fact, an increasing number of consumers are now insisting that their smartphones must be capable of wireless charging. According to a global survey recently conducted by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), consumers who already use this technology are highly satisfied with it and have in fact named wireless charging phones and accessories as some of the best possible gifts this holiday season.
More specifically, the said non-profit organization found that approximately 90% of people who ever used wireless charging are pleased with it, and almost half of them proceeded to purchase at least one more product that supports this functionality. Interestingly enough, WPC claims that three-quarters of all phone users experience the so-called “battery anxiety” at least once per week while over a third of consumers are stressing about charging their phones on a daily basis. According to this survey’s findings, wireless charging helps users combat battery anxiety as it allows them to charge their phones by simply placing them on their charger.
Due to these findings, WPC is claiming that a faster user adoption of wireless charging technology may be on the horizon in 2017. The organization’s study found that even people who have never used wireless charging view it as appealing, and due to high satisfaction rates of existing users, general awareness of this technology is growing at a rapid pace. Now, it’s worth noting that WPC based the findings of this study on surveys of 2,000 consumers from the United States, Europe, and Asia. In other words, the said organization didn’t use a huge sample size so these results may not be entirely reflective of the actual public opinion on wireless charging. However, this study still suggests that wireless charging technology has a bright future ahead of it. So, while the likes of the Google Pixel and the Google Pixel XL still demonstrate that a flagship without wireless charging can be successful, that situation may change in the near future, especially as this technology becomes even cheaper to manufacture and consequently cheaper to purchase.
