T-Mobile has just officially announced their own press conference for CES 2017, which takes place the first week of January. The Un-carrier seems to have some big news to share with us on January 5th at 11AM PST. The Un-carrier has been a staple at CES in recent years, in fact they have announced their preliminary fourth quarter results at this event a few times, and even announced the Un-carrier at this event way back in 2013. So there’s bound to be something big coming from Magenta on January 5th.
The invitation from T-Mobile doesn’t show many hints of what the company may have up their sleeves, simply asking “What’s Next?” and that’s about it. T-Mobile has released a slew of Un-carrier announcements in the past few years, all of which have been aimed at making the customers life a bit easier. So we could be seeing another Un-carrier announcement coming out of this event, but we could also see something larger. There’s no telling what John Legere and his team have up their sleeves, but we only have to wait a few weeks to find out what they are going to announce.
Since T-Mobile was taken over by John Legere in late 2012, the company has flourished. Coming from losing nearly a million subscribers each quarter, to not posting over a million and sometimes over 2 million subscribers each quarter. They have leaped Sprint and jumped into the third spot. Still far behind AT&T and Verizon, but they are catching up a bit faster than many thought they would. T-Mobile has made the wireless industry a lot more competitive over the past four years, and it looks like they aren’t done shaking things up. Under Legere’s leadership, the company has eliminated contracts, eliminated subsidies, killed off overages, and have brought back unlimited data for good. They’ve also thrown in a few other goodies for customers like international roaming for free, an hour of free WiFi while flying (as well as texting for the entire flight) and os much more. Not to mention T-Mobile Tuesdays, which may not always have great products up for grabs, but it is still free stuff for customers.
