It’s perhaps one of the most common things we do with our smartphones these days; check the weather. We might not always have a dedicated app to do this for us, we’re always notified of such changes one way or another, with services like Google Now and such doing it for us. For those that need to know what the weather is going to be doing, be it for work, or simply to better plan ahead of time, there’s often a need for a dedicated weather app. There are countless options available in the Play Store for this, but not all of them are equal, and some are of course, better than others. Hopefully, our list of the Top 10 Weather apps for Android has a little something for everyone and covers all of the bases.
Yahoo Weather
A classic that most people will have come in contact with at some time or another, the Yahoo Weather app is a real looker of an app. It has good typography, as well as some quality photos that look as if they’ve been sourced from Flickr, giving the app a very professional look and feel. It has a lot of info involved, too, and is more than just a pretty face with things like weather maps as well as the sun and moon cycles, wind and pressure readings and a lot more. It’s free to download, and has some good-looking widgets, too.
Weather Live
If widgets are something you’re interested in when it comes to weather apps, then Weather Live has to be one of the better options on Android right now. There’s a lot on offer throughout the whole app of course, with 7-day forecasts, quick-switching between different locations as well as the ability to create custom layouts of which data you see inside of the app. Weather Live might not be the most accurate weather app out there, but it has so much on offer that it’s hard not to give this a try, especially with all of the included widgets.
AccuWeather
An industry heavyweight, having been on ANdroid since the beginning, AccuWeather won’t be for everyone, as it can be a little too full-on in terms of coverage. However, it’s the sort of app that will appeal to the majority of users, as it ticks all of the right boxes, and looks good while doing it. Where AccuWeather differs from other apps out there is the ability to watch live video of weather events happening all over the world, as well as the ability to get minute-by-minute forecasts, even if they might not be all that accurate.
Weather Timeline – Forecast
When Weather Timeline was first launched, it became popular due to the fact that it was a good-looking Material Design app at a time where there were few of them around. Since then, of course, Android has all but moved away from the Holo design language of old. What makes this different now, however, is that the app can be used to fast-forward or rewind time to see what the weather is doing in month or a year’s time, as well as what it did a hundred years ago. Most of this is of course estimation, but it’s a fun feature nonetheless, and the app still looks great even today.
BBC Weather
This might be an app that is only really going to be much help to our UK readers, but the BBC Weather app is something people should very much look into, and it’s the sort of app that’s comforting and easy to use. This is down to the fact that BBC Weather is a fairly simple app, and one that doesn’t offer much in the way of extra features. This, however, shouldn’t put people off, but instead encourage them to go ahead and adopt the app. After all, what a lot of people want in a weather app is something reliable, easy on the eye and super-simple to use.
1Weather
1Weather has been around on Android for some time now as well, and it’s definitely going to be the favorite of a lot of users at this point. Of course, whether or not it becomes a new favorite will be down to you. 1Weather has a lot going for it in terms of features, and can provide simple and easy-to-understand forecasts, as well as some great options to make sure that people get all of the information they want from their weather app. With all kinds of different views, radar views and more, this is a great one to try out.
Eye in the Sky
This is the sort of weather app that will appeal to those that want a more clean looking weather app, above all else. It has all the sorts of finishes that you’d associate with a good-looking weather app, and looks good no matter what. With great typography, as well as the option to change icon sets, Eye in the Sky could be more style over substance, but it’s a good-looking app, and one that does get the job done where forecasting the weather is concerned, complete with radar maps and everything.
Klara Weather
For those that really need to get as much data as they can, for whatever they might be doing that day, Klara Weather is a simple and fully-featured app to consider. It has all the data you could want in a weather app, including extras such as atmospheric pressure and a whole lot more besides that. What’s nice about Klara in particular is that despite offering all of this data, it does so in a simple, and good-looking manner, it doesn’t try too hard one way or the other, and just presents the data to those that need.
Weather Underground
Designed as a “hyperlocal” weather app, Weather Underground does a great job of making sure that whatever you need to find out, it has the data to provide it. The app has been around for a long time now, but that doesn’t mean that the developers are resting on their laurels. In fact, the team have just recently completed a revamp of the entire app, and if you have tried this in the past, now is a good a time as any to give it another go. With all manner of different features available, as well as a quality look and feel, Weather Underground is something that you should look into.
WeatherBug
Another app that has been around for some time now, WeatherBug is an excellent Android app that does its absolute best to provide users with all the weather information that they could ever want. One thing that really stands out here, more so than with other apps, is the ability to hook your smart thermostat into the app to make sure that your heating is doing what it should be doing, regardless of whether or not you’re in or out.
