While Android Wear as a platform in general has been consistently coming out with new devices, some of the most recent being The Mission from Nixon, the Michael Kors Access line, and the two new watches from Fossil, there are some manufacturers which we haven’t seen any new Android Wear devices from, such as Huawei and LG. Perhaps more importantly, though, there hasn’t been any new devices from Motorola in the smartwatch department, and earlier this week it was made abundantly clear that they had no plans for a new smartwatch right now, and that there were none in the works. This likely leads many to wonder if there will be a new Android Wear smartwatch from the Motorola team.
Under the new leadership of Lenovo, there have certainly been some changes to Motorola’s device lineup, not the least of which is the branding of their devices that now only contain “moto” in the name instead of “Motorola.” While prior to Motorola’s confirmation about there being an absence of smartwatch plans likely made consumers wonder about the future of an Android Wear device from the company, as these typically would have been announced around the same time as the Moto Z family, it’s the acknowledgement that are no current or future plans for a Moto 360 3rd Gen, or whatever it would be called, that most likely fosters questions and doubt as to whether or not there will ever be a new smartwatch, Android Wear or not, from one of the brands that first help pioneer the platform.
Keeping in that mind, nothing has been officially stated that mentions there are never going to be any more smartwatches from the Moto camp, and it makes sense that they might simply be steering clear from the industry at the moment as there isn’t exactly a massive amount of popularity surrounding it. That said, even if Motorola doesn’t see enough “pull in the market” to warrant another smartwatch release right now, surely there are consumers who wish to see another device from them. Perhaps a follow up to the Moto 360 2nd Gen or maybe something new entirely, with a new name and of course a new design. Are you hoping to see another Moto 360 smartwatch next year?
