Back in the early days of the Internet, Yahoo Answers was one of the most popular online services with hundreds of millions of users. These days, like most other Yahoo services, Yahoo Answers started fading a bit and was partially replaced by Quora and similar websites. However, Yahoo is more than willing to try to restore this service back to its old glory. Cue Yahoo Answers Now, a new app developed by the Sunnyvale-based company. As the name suggests, Yahoo Answers Now is a mobile platform for posting all kinds of questions and responding to inquiries about pretty much any topic you can think of. Surprisingly, the Yahoo Answers Now app is not built on their existing Q&A platform. In fact it is a separate platform that was built from scratch.
However, that isn’t to say Yahoo Answers Now doesn’t include some convenient features. For starters, Yahoo will match all of your questions with responders it deems most qualified to answer them. This algorithm is based on users’ previous ratings given by the online community so it should be fairly accurate when it comes to asking particular people to answer your questions. Furthermore, Yahoo Answers Now allows you to follow user profiles and check on their activity, which adds another social dimension to the entire user experience. Yahoo also implemented a “Thank You” button into the app so that you can quickly express gratitude to other users. In addition to that, the app provides you with an easy way to ennoble your answers with various media content and online sources. Of course, Yahoo Answers Now also ships with support for push notifications so that you can always keep track of your online queries and insights.
In other words, this is a mobile edition of Yahoo Answers, and as such, it fulfills its purpose quite nicely. The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store free of charge and seemingly features no microtransactions. However, for unknown reasons, Yahoo opted to not roll out its latest product worldwide. More specifically, Yahoo Answers Now currently isn’t available in parts of Europe and possibly other territories, as well. While it’s possible that the Sunnyvale-based company decided to test the app in some regions before a worldwide release, the official announcement of Yahoo Answers Now makes no mention of that.
