Car Charging Comparison Video: Google Pixel XL vs OnePlus 3T

Just a day ago, OnePlus released a video which features the company’s latest smartphone, the OnePlus 3T, along with the company’s fast-charging solution, Dash Charge. In the video, the OnePlus 3T is pit against the Google Pixel XL, to determine which device will charge up faster during a daily commute. In the video, Google Maps on both devices is started up and a destination is set, approximately thirty minutes away from the starting point. It should be noted that the Pixel XL comes with fast charging capabilities as well.

The OnePlus 3T is charged up using the official Dash Car Charger from OnePlus, while the Google Pixel XL was connected to a Belking 27W USB-C Car Charger, which OnePlus says was bought from the Google Store. As this is a promotional video from OnePlus, it is not much of a surprise that the OnePlus 3T charged up faster than the Pixel XL. At the start of the commute, both devices only had 1 percent of battery life remaining, but by the time the thirty minute trip was over, the OnePlus 3T had 57 percent of battery life compared to the much smaller 21 percent the Pixel XL managed to obtain throughout the commute. However it should be noted that both smartphones have different charging temperatures. The OnePlus 3T doesn’t heat up much while being charged but the Pixel XL usually does. Also, devices tend to heat up more when being used for navigation, so the temperature rise on the Pixel XL may have throttled its charging speeds, hence the much slower rate. The video from OnePlus may be viewed below after this post.

This isn’t the first time OnePlus has put the OnePlus 3T up against the Pixel XL in a charging test. A couple of months back, OnePlus conducted a charging test in a controlled environment. In the test, the OnePlus 3T managed to fully recharge in one hour and thirty minutes, while the Pixel XL only took two hours and one minute to hit 100 percent. The OnePlus 3T packs a 3,400mAh non-removable battery while the Pixel XL packs a marginally bigger battery, coming in at 3,450mAh.
