CES 2017: Xiaomi Shows Off Mi Note 2 In Pink, Purple & Green

Having confirmed that the Mi MIX phablet will be launched in White later this year, Xiaomi has now shown off the Mi Note 2 in Pink, Purple and Green at the CES 2017 trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The device is currently available only in Black, Gold and Silver, but is likely to be offered in the three new colors at some stage in the future. Unfortunately, though, Xiaomi hasn’t given any ETA for the commercial launch of these new versions, nor has it said anything about their availability. That being the case, there’s no telling when these new options will be available for purchase and, if at all they will be available outside of China.

Another couple of things that Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned are the pricing and the tech specs. While the latter is not really expected to change, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi will charge a premium for the new models, or if these will cost the same as the ones that are currently available for purchase. Going by the images, one has to say that the vibrant colors on offer provide a welcome relief from the mostly monochrome shades that a vast majority of smartphone vendors have traditionally chosen for their devices. Recently of course, Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and even Pink have started becoming fairly popular, but apart from Nokia’s colorful Lumia devices, we haven’t really seen too many smartphones being offered in truly unique colors over the years.

The Mi Note 2 was launched last year as a replacement for the aging first-generation Mi Note that was unveiled by Xiaomi way back in early 2015 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and 3GB of RAM. The second-gen device has seen quite an upgrade over that original one, and comes with the Snapdragon 821 on board along with a 22.5-megapixel primary camera that can shoot 2160p videos at 30fps. It also comes with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and a dual curved-edge display, much like the Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge. Pricing for the Mi Note 2 starts at 2,799 Yuan (around $400) for the 4GB RAM / 64GB storage version, making it quite an attractive proposition for buyers.
