The Huawei P8 Lite (2017) appeared on the benchmarking website GFXBench on Friday, presumably not long before the phone is officially launched. The P8 Lite (2017) sports a compact case and was unveiled earlier this month by the Chinese phone maker. The nomenclature for this particular device is a bit curious, considering the original P8 Lite was announced all the way back in April of 2015, and Huawei has even launched the P9 Lite since then. What’s more, the company is also expected to launch a P10 Lite in the near future to ennoble its new P10 series, although that has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the new compact smartphone actually comes with a few nice hardware upgrades over both the P8 Lite and the P9 Lite.
The GFXBench listing confirms some key hardware specifications that were officially revealed earlier this month. The P8 Lite (2017) features a 5.2-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The device is powered by the Kirin 655 SoC, which is the latest mid-range chip designed and developed in-house by the Chinese consumer electronics giant. The chip comes with an embedded octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU clocked at 2.1GHz, along with a Mali-T830MP2 GPU for rendering graphics. The P8 Lite (2017) also sports 3GB of RAM alongside 16GB of built-in storage, which is expandable thanks to the microSD card slot of the device. The phone supports 4G LTE connectivity, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a non-removable 3,000mAh Li-ion battery.
On the imaging front, the Huawei P8 Lite (2017) features a 12-megapixel primary camera with an aperture of f/2.0, while the secondary camera is an 8-megapixel featuring an identical aperture. Both sensors are able to record 1080p videos at 30 frames per second. On the software side of things, the P8 Lite ships with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with an EMUI 5.0 overlay. According to recent reports, the device will be launched in Europe by the end of this month, priced at €239 (around $255). Curiously, reports also seem to suggest that the P8 Lite (2017) will be marketed in South America as the P9 Lite (2017), although that information is yet to be officially confirmed.
