Google adds yet more banks to Android Pay’s support list, this time totaling 40 new banks and credit unions that are now included on the already massive (and continually growing) list of supported institutions. This includes banks like Bank of Central Florida and Advantage One Federal Credit Union, as well as BMO Harris Bank N.A. and FedEx Employees Credit Association, among many others. As is standard it seems, Google appears to be adding new banks to the list of supported locations every two to four weeks, and has been adding new banks and credit unions around that pace since not too long after its official launch.
Today’s newly updated list comes just a short while after Google added support for 31 new banks and credit unions back on December 19th, and for consumers who’s banks are still not listed as having Android Pay support, if Google continues to add more to the list at the rate they have been then it’s likely that their banks may be added in this next round which should be sometime in the first half of February if the timing stays the same.
Interestingly enough, Google is also said to be launching Android Wear 2.0 in February, although they don’t mention any specific time frame other than “early February,” and with Android Wear 2.0 comes support for Android Pay on the platform, meaning users will finally be able to make payments for purchases from their wrists. This launch of the new version of Android Wear should coincide nicely with the timing of a new batch of added banks for Android Pay support, although there is also no guarantee that the support for more banks will be added at or around the exact same time as the release of Android Wear 2.0. While Android Pay is already widely available across the U.S. and some other major markets, Google is still continuing to open support for the service in some other countries, having recently added support for Japan back in the first half of December, while places like Canada have yet to fully support Google’s mobile payment system although it does reportedly work for customers of Canada’s Scotiabank.
