Google is testing larger cards for Play Store Results as some users are seeing the larger cards show up in their version of the Play Store app. The larger cards are appearing whenever users are searching for a particular keyword to find an app, such as the word Google, as shown in the two images below. This would be the latest visual tweak that Google has started applying to the Play Store, and follows along the same lines as other visual changes that they have applied in the past. Back at the end of November, some users started seeing larger results for apps in a huge card style format that was taking up the length of the page, which makes today’s visual changes seem like a continuation of that as those cards for app results would show up once you tapped on an app after searching for a keyword, while today’s changes happen to be larger card sizes for the actual results that show up following the search.
In addition to the larger size cards, Google is also showing more detailed information on the cards now that there is more room, which is quite likely the reason behind the change to the bigger size for results as they can fit things like the install numbers and the age rating on them along with the star rating for the app. This gives users the ability to quickly glance at the card for an app and see those details if they’re interested.
The search results with large cards don’t seem to be showing up for everyone, and there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to where Google is testing this visual change region-wise, or with how many users. That being said there’s no telling when Google will roll these changes out to all users or if they will do so at all. Alongside larger card views for app search results, Google has made some other visual changes to the Play Store too. A little over a week prior to the larger results for apps that were mentioned above as showing up at the end of November, some users started reporting that they were seeing “top charts” as part of the UI within the app.
