IHS Technology has just released some smartphone shipments info for the top 10 Chinese smartphone manufacturers. This list is actually quite similar to the list that was released in July for the first half of 2016, and the top three companies remain unchanged. According to IHS Technology, Huawei is far ahead, the source claims that the company had managed to ship out 139 million smartphones in 2016, which is 44 million more than the second-placed company, OPPO.
OPPO has managed to ship out 95 million smartphones in 2016, which is quite a success for this company, especially if you consider that the company is mainly selling their devices in Asia, mostly China. Vivo is the third-placed company on this list with 82 million sold smartphones last year, and one of the largest and most popular China-based smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi, is following Vivo. Xiaomi is nowhere near Vivo in terms of sales, though, at least not according to this info, as the company had shipped out ‘only’ 58 million smartphones in 2016, which is considerably less than a year before when Xiaomi’s shipments were close to 70 million devices. ZTE is very close to Xiaomi, actually, as the company had moved 57 million units in 2016, and is followed by Lenovo (and Motorola), and their 50 million sold smartphones.
TCL, Gionee, Meizu and LeEco close out this list, as these four companies had managed to sell 34 million, 28 million, 22 million and 19 million smartphones, respectively. As you can see, this list is actually quite similar to the list that was published for H1 2016, with a couple of changes, though. Huawei is still the top dog as far as Chinese smartphone manufacturers are concerned, and there’s not surprise there, while OPPO and Vivo are still managing to stay ahead of Xiaomi. Xiaomi will have to pick up the pace if they want to become one of the top three smartphone manufacturers in China. In any case, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of months, though it seems like the top three companies are untouchable at the moment, they’re far ahead of the rest of the pack, and chances are we won’t see any changes in the first half of this year.
