Meizu's 2017 Flagship Probably Won't Use Qualcomm's SoC

Meizu’s 2017 flagship probably won’t be fueled by one of Qualcomm’s chips, according to company’s officials. Meizu actually hosted a chat session yesterday, and some of its officials were interviewed. During the interview, they answered a couple of interesting questions, and have also talked about their upcoming flagship, vaguely. Well, it seems like the company still has no plans to include a Snapdragon processor in their upcoming flagship, despite the fact they’ve signed a patent agreement quite recently, read on.

The company’s President and Vice President were interviewed yesterday, and besides talking about Qualcomm, they’ve also talked about the company’s success last year. As we’ve already reported yesterday, Meizu had managed to sell 22 million smartphones in 2016, which is their new record, they’ve managed to beat last year’s record of 20 million sold smartphones. In addition to that, 10% of their smartphones were sold outside of China, which is also quite a success for Meizu. Meizu’s officials did not exactly mention that we’ll get a MediaTek-powered Meizu-branded flagship this year, like the Meizu PRO 6 was last year, though they kind of suggested it indirectly. They did not mention anything about an Exynos-powered device, unfortunately, but that doesn’t mean it won’t launch in 2017. Truth be told, their answers were quite vague, and they were careful not to reveal anything, which was to be expected.

Now, if a recently-leaked Meizu roadmap is to be believed, Meizu is planning to release a Snapdragon-powered smartphone in the fourth quarter of this year, but it won’t be their flagship handset. In addition to all this, it was revealed that the company’s Flyme OS which runs on top of Android is growing really fast, it currently has over 50 million users. It will certainly be interesting to see what is Meizu planning for 2017, but we’re expecting to see some change in their design language, as their devices are starting to look too similar one to the other. The company’s concept smartphone has been both rumored and leaked recently, and we’re wondering what will the Meizu PRO 7 look like. In any case, stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted, as per usual, more info will probably leak in the near future as the company is expected to release the Meizu PRO 7 in H1 this year.
