The latest Pokemon GO update allows players to listen to background music while hunting for pocket monsters. Previous versions of the popular augmented reality (AR) game automatically stopped any background music upon launch which was a known bug in the Unity 3D engine which Unity Technologies fixed by releasing a small patch earlier this month. The San Francisco-based Niantic Labs apparently took advantage of that patch, as evidenced by the latest Pokemon GO update. While this fix isn’t mentioned in the changelog detailing the Pokemon GO update version 0.55.0, players all over the world have already confirmed it exists and is working as intended.
The same bug was recently fixed in the iOS version of the game which prompted some displeasure among Android gamers who were hoping the issue would be fixed on both platforms simultaneously. While the latest version of Pokemon GO doesn’t stop background music from playing once you launch it, it does noticeably lower its overall volume. The new update for the game also reduces starting load times on Android devices by a significant margin and fixes several connectivity issues which sometimes occurred when pairing the Pokemon GO Plus wearable with the Android version of the game. The game’s changelog also mentions “minor text fixes” which developers at Niantic Labs are now apparently using as a running joke in the Pokemon GO community.
A previous update for the game that rolled out earlier this month hinted at more generation two pocket monsters making their way to Pokemon GO in the near future. While there’s still no new information on that front, an update is expected to follow soon seeing how Niantic Labs already started introducing new Pokemon back in December. Pokemon GO will also likely receive several major updates over the course of this year. Among other things, developers previously promised they’re working on a player-versus-player mode and an in-game trading system that would allow users to trade Pokemon and Poke Eggs. The latest Pokemon GO update started rolling out on Saturday and should already be available for download from the Google Play Store worldwide.
