A Samsung-specific version of News Republic called ‘News Republic For Samsung’ hit the Galaxy Apps Store earlier this week, San Francisco-based Cheetah Mobile confirmed on Wednesday. The news app is available for download free of charge in all parts of the world and comes packed with a number of unique features designed to take advantage of the Samsung Galaxy lineup. Additionally, News Republic For Samsung also introduces several exclusive features which supposedly make it the ultimate version of the popular Android app.
Cheetah Mobile revealed that its latest offering is packed with a text-to-speech functionality allowing users of Samsung devices to listen to their articles in addition to reading them. Whenever you open an article, you’ll be able to tap on a speaker icon located on the top of the screen to listen to an audio variant of the piece. News Republic For Samsung also features an improved user interface which now allows you to long-press a topic and see more information from Wikipedia without leaving the article you’re reading. The app also boasts its own Edge Panel which displays breaking news. However, that feature is only available on the Galaxy S7 Edge while Samsung’s older devices with Edge Panel support don’t have access to it for some reason. On the other hand, the Newsstand feature is available to all owners of compatible Samsung devices who can now follow individual outlets from the app and enjoy a more personalized user experience. News Republic For Samsung also boasts machine learning algorithms which will make recommendations based on one’s preferences and reading history, as well as location.
Additionally, News Republic For Samsung comes packed with a Gear S3 widget which can be used to quickly check recent headlines and read News Republic’s articles. The Gear S3 widget sports a circular scrolling bar for easier navigation. The Samsung-specific version of News Republic is available for download exclusively from the Galaxy Apps Store. Seeing how it’s specifically made for Samsung devices, it’s unlikely this app will ever make its way to the Google Play Store. On the other hand, if you own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, there’s nothing stopping you from downloading the app.
