The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will feature a 3,250mAh and a 3,750mAh battery, respectively, recent rumors originating from South Korea suggest. Samsung’s mobile division allegedly contacted battery suppliers and shared new details over its upcoming production roadmap. Among other things, the update reveals that Samsung will need large volumes of 3,250mAh and 3,750mAh batteries. While the company made no mention of either the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy S8 Plus, it is believed these batteries are intended to be powering Samsung’s upcoming Android flagships that are expected to hit the market in April.
For added context, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge featured a 3,000mAh and a 3,600mAh battery, respectively. Seeing how Samsung’s upcoming phones will likely be powered by the Exynos 8895 and the Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip in select territories, a small improvement in battery capacity seems reasonable seeing how 10nm chipsets are much more power efficient than their predecessors. A more efficient SoC coupled with a slightly larger battery should be enough to compensate for a larger screen. The Galaxy S8 is expected to sport a 5.7-inch display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus will reportedly feature a 6.2-inch screen, so if recent reports are to be believed, the two devices will at the very least offer identical battery life to that of their predecessors.
By most accounts, the Galaxy S8 is going to be one of the most powerful Android smartphones released in 2017. Apart from high-end hardware, the device is also rumored to boast several unique features like Samsung’s phone-to-PC solution called Samsung DeX and the Bixby AI assistant. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is currently under a lot of pressure to deliver a stunning device that will make amends for the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, so the Galaxy S8 will likely be a significant upgrade over its predecessor. More information is bound to follow in the coming weeks as Samsung is expected to officially unveil its next pair of Android flagships at a special New York City event in late March. Recent reports suggest that the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will launch in mid-April.
