Rumor: Nokia's Snapdragon 835-Powered P1 Coming at MWC 2017

CES just ended not too long ago, but many companies are already looking forward to Mobile World Congress which takes place at the end of February, and is the trade show where most major smartphones are released. Samsung, LG and HTC usually headline MWC, but this year with Samsung rumored to be announcing the Galaxy S8 a bit later on, and HTC already having announced the U Play and U Ultra, that leaves room for other players. Perhaps Nokia. The once popular smartphone maker has already debuted the Nokia 6 this year, which has been very popular over in China, gaining over a million registrations before the device even goes on sale. Now, it appears that the Nokia P1 is going to be coming to Barcelona next month, with a Snapdragon 835 inside.

Specs on the Nokia P1 are pretty impressive. The rumor mill is pointing towards a 5.3-inch display, although the resolution is not mentioned. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and it’ll have 6GB of RAM. There’s also 128GB of internal storage – as well as a 256GB model. It’ll also have a Carl Zeiss-certified camera on the back, which is a 22.6-megapixel shooter. And with a name like Carl Zeiss being included, it should be a pretty impressive camera. There’s also a 3500mAh battery inside, with Android 7.0 Nougat included. The Nokia P1 is rumored to be heavily based off of a Sharp smartphone, which shouldn’t be a huge surprise given the fact that the company manufacturing Nokia’s devices is Foxconn, who just bought Sharp last year.

Keep in mind that virtually none of this can be verified right now and needs to be taken with a heavy grain of salt, as any rumor should. The Nokia P1 does look to be a pretty impressive device, but it’ll also cost a pretty penny too. With the 128GB model coming in at $800 and the 256GB model coming in at $950. That’s definitely a huge step above most other smartphones these days, but still right in the same price range as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (if you compare it to the same storage sizes).
