Rumor: Samsung May Launch The Galaxy S8 On April 21

Latest reports seem to suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S8 from Samsung will be launched officially on April 21st, although there continues to be conflicting reports on whether Samsung has officially confirmed that date or not. While most sections of the media are seemingly certain that the South Korean company will launch its latest flagship during mid-April, the exact date continues to remain a mystery. Recent reports had suggested that April 17th or 18th is likely to be the date when the device will finally be available for purchase, although earlier rumors had suggested that even April 23rd might be a possible option. It will be interesting to see what happens in the end, but whichever way it goes, mid-April seems to be the timeline we’re looking at right now.

The Galaxy S8 will be Samsung’s first premium smartphone since the scrapping of the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 last year. The device was initially reported to be scheduled for an official unveiling in New York City in late March or early April, but newer reports have suggested that Samsung will actually make it official at the MWC trade show next month in the Spanish city of Barcelona, which is where the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 were both officially unveiled. Samsung also has ambitious plans for its upcoming flagship smartphone, with reports indicating that that company wants to sell at least 60 million units of the device globally over the next year. The company reportedly has also set targets of 100 million units for the Galaxy J series, and 20 million for the Galaxy A series this year.

According to leaked information, the Galaxy S8 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) Super AMOLED display. Latest rumors suggest that the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, although, earlier rumors had claimed that it will come with the Snapdragon 830 under its hood. On the software side of things, the Galaxy S8 is expected to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, but it’s the rumored PC-like functionality of the upcoming handset that’s been getting quite a bit of attention from enthusiasts on forums, message boards and online social media over the past week.
