Sony is rumored to launch a flagship Android smartphone codenamed Yoshino at Mobile World Congress 2017. The Sony Yoshino is said to feature a 4K display and will allegedly be powered by the Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip, Qualcomm’s best chip to date. Additionally, the device will pack 4GB to 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and sport the Sony IMX400 sensor, rumors indicate. Apart from that flagship smartphone, sources say that Sony will unveil four more Android phones in Barcelona. The original report originates from a Georgian website Review.ge so it remains to be seen how much of it will hold true come late February.
Another rumored device Sony is allegedly preparing to unveil is codenamed BlancBright and apparently features a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display. While the Sony BlancBright is also aimed at the premium segment of the market, it’s unclear whether the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 653 or the Snapdragon 835 SoC. However, rumors indicate that it will pack 4GB of RAM and sport Sony’s new camera sensor that will also apparently be integrated into the Yoshino. The next device rumored to be coming to MWC 2017 is the Sony Keyaki, a 5.2-inch mid-ranger whose display features a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. Sources indicate that the device will sport the MediaTek Helio P20 CPU and 4GB of RAM, along with 64GB of internal storage. The Keyaki will allegedly feature a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. The second mid-range smartphone that Sony is said to debut in Barcelona is codenamed Hinoki and will apparently be powered by the same MediaTek-made processor fueling the Sony Keyaki, in addition to 3GB of RAM. The device is said to be somewhat smaller than the Keyaki as it will apparently feature a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. Only other information about the phone points to a 16-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter, as well as 32GB of built-in storage.
The company is also said to debut the Sony Mineo that will apparently be priced at around $350, but no other details are currently known about the device. In overall, it will be interesting to see whether the Japanese tech giant arrives in Barcelona with at least one phone powered by the Snapdragon 835, especially after HTC’s mobile chief ruled out that possibility earlier this week.
