The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 continues to elude the market, but the slate has now been spotted in the database of GFXBench, hinting at what could be an approaching debut. The tablet’s specifications have been largely unveiled and/or confirmed by GFXBench, and based on the data we can expect a relatively high-end configuration (by Android tablet standards) driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 System-on-Chip.
According to GFXBench data, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 carrying model number “SM-T820” and “SM-T825” accommodates a 9.6-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, and underneath beats the heart of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC featuring 2 Kryo cores operating at frequencies of up to 2.1 GHz, and 2 Kryo cores clocked at up to 1.6 GHz each. The CPU works hand in hand with a Qualcomm Adreno 530 graphics chip as well as 4 GB of RAM (3.3 GB shown by GFXBench). Storage-wise the slate features 32 GB of on-board memory (24 GB shown in GFXBench), and as far as the camera setup is concerned, it incorporates a 12-megapixel main unit with autofocus, face detection, HDR and flash, as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor – both featuring 1080p video recording capabilities. In regards to connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 takes advantage of Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, as well as one SIM card slot confirming that at least one of the two specified variants –the SM-T825 – will have cellular capabilities. Lastly, the terminal is listed as running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box coupled with Samsung’s proprietary user interface, or as GFXBench describes it “Android Samsung Edition”.
As yet there’s no official word on when the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will be released, but it’s worth reminding that its direct predecessors were introduced in July 2015 and released in September the same year. Previously it’s been rumored that the slate should hit the shelves in the first part of 2017, and sure enough, the tablet identified as SM-T825 has been certified recently by the Wi-Fi Alliance. More recent rumors speculated that unlike the models spotted in GFXBench, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will be powered by an in-house Exynos 7420 system-on-chip as opposed to a Qualcomm chipset. This could still be a valid point for models in certain regions around the globe.
