Samsung Overtakes Whirlpool As Top Appliance Vendor In US

Samsung Electronics overtook Whirlpool to become the top vendor of home appliances in the United States, boasting a market share of 17.3% in 2016. The South Korean tech giant also revealed a range of new products at this year’s International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo). AHR Expo 2017 started yesterday in Las Vegas and Samsung arrived at the event showcasing its new Max Heat Series and the AR9500M, the first wall-mounted Wind-Free air conditioner ever created.

The Max Heat Series lineup was specifically designed for cold regions and consumers looking for an air conditioning system that can protect them from low temperatures. The new product lineup is capable of heating the room and running at full efficiency when outside temperatures are as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius, i.e. 59 degrees Fahrenheit. For even more extreme conditions, Samsung introduced the DVM S Max Heat which utilizes the company’s proprietary Flash Injection technology and operates at a maximum capacity even when temperatures go as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The entire Max Heat Series is intended for commercial use. The South Korean tech giant also took to AHR Expo 2017 to showcase the AR9500M which was already unveiled at CES 2017. The conditioner boasts 21,000 micro air holes through which it distributes still air and naturally cools the room without creating an unpleasant flow of cold air that traditional ACs do. The AR9500M supports Samsung’s Smart Home technology which allows it to function as a contemporary Internet of Things (IoT) appliance. The Samsung 360 Cassette bladeless AC is also currently on display in Las Vegas, boasting a circular design which allows for a 360-degree airflow.

Samsung’s newly established dominance in the U.S. home appliance market will likely continue for some time seeing how all vendors are expected to experience an equal drop in sales during the first quarter of 2017. The market will likely get more competitive come spring when consumers are traditionally more inclined to go shopping for new home appliances. LG Electronics is also currently faring rather well in the U.S. seeing how the Seoul-based tech giant is currently the third most successful vendor of home appliances in the country, boasting a market share of 15.7 percent which puts it right behind Whirlpool.
