Sony Xperia Z3+, Z3+ Dual Getting Android Nougat Update

Sony’s Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z3+ Dual, known as the Xperia Z4 in some territories, is being updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, and is evidently getting the same build of the software as the Xperia Z5, though some features may get lost in translation or changed a bit as the software is ported to the slightly lower-end hardware. The build number for the update is 32.3.A.0.372, and users can mostly expect a similar experience to Xperia Z5 users, but some users are reporting that small features like manual controls for the camera are missing in action. Unlike the Xperia Z5, which gets a new lockscreen and icons from the Xperia X series, the update for the Xperia Z3+ series seems to leave the look of the phone mostly the same.

The new features on Sony’s end include Google Now integration in the Xperia Home app, new front camera controls, and optimizations for performance and battery life. Meanwhile, those who take the update can expect all of the usual Nougat goodness that Google delivers, such as multi-window mode, quick settings customization, and new settings pertaining to things all over the device, including the System UI tuner. The update has only just begun to roll out, but thus far, nobody has reported any sort of regression on issues like overheating that have had to be patched in the past.

The Nougat update includes Google’s December security patch, and Sony has not yet announced when they plan on rolling out the January patch for Xperia Z3+ users. The update leaves users with the same baseband firmware as they already had, so users should probably not hold their breath for vastly better signal or blazing data speeds after getting the update, though some small network improvements may be on board. For now, there is no word on exactly when the update will be hitting carrier versions of the phone, or Xperia Z4 variants like those found in the United States. Those who do not want to wait for the OTA to hit their device can check the source link, where the flashable FTF file will be posted as soon as a user with the update dumps it for everybody else.
