TomTom has just announced two new GPS units along with a brand new sports/fitness app at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Like their biggest competitor, Garmin, TomTom has also put their hands into the fitness wearables industry, and are now debuting their brand new fitness app, the TomTom Sports app. This app is compatible with all of the company’s sports fitness wearables. These include the Adventurer, Touch and Spark 3. TomTom says that this app will give users a way to visualize their fitness progress, as well as the ability to achieve their personal best with an improved dashboard. The Sports app does also include social connectivity, allowing users to share their progress, their goals and personal bests on their favorite social network. The app is set to be available later this month.
While most people are using apps on their phone for GPS or directions, there is still a market for standalone GPS units, and TomTom has just announced two new units at CES 2017. The first one is the TomTom VIA. This is a slim and stylish unit from TomTom, and includes a new address search feature, advanced routing and even provides lifetime maps. This way you will always have the most up-to-date maps on your GPS unit. The TomTom VIA will be available in three models. The VIA 1425 has a 4-inch touchscreen, VIA 1525 with a 5-inch touchscreen, and the VIA 1625 with a 6-inch touchscreen. These will all be available in March 2017, TomTom has not yet announced pricing however.
The second GPS unit that TomTom has announced is the TomTom GO. This model brings WiFi connectivity, so that users can update their device without needing to use a USB cable or a computer. The TomTom GO has the ability to read text messages to the driver, it also allows hands-free calling and is also compatible with digital personal assistants, including Siri, Google and Cortana (the Google Assistant is not yet compatible). TomTom has also developed an AI platform, so that the GO is able to learn the driver’s habits and then predict destinations for the driver. So that the driver can instead focus on the road. Like the TomTom VIA, the GO also features lifetime maps updates and will be available in March.
