Verizon’s biggest unlimited data users will need to migrate to a new plan soon as the carrier is set to require a plan change by February 16th of this year. Verizon is going to start sending notices to its customers who have high amounts of data usage on their plans, although not all high-use customers are going to receive these as a message to employees notes that it only applies to customers who are averaging more than 200GB per month. Verizon also details that they were going to start looking at customer data usage for the customers on unlimited plans as of January 5th which was just last week.
Being that Verizon isn’t going to require customers who fit into this category to migrate to a new plan until February 16th, customers who suspect that they might be a high user who averages 200GB per month will have some time to figure out what they’re going to do in regards to the migration, whether that’s switch to a new Verizon plan or switch to a new carrier entirely.
Verizon initially announced that they were going to require customer to migrate that were using high amounts of data back in July of 2016, although at the time it was thought that the amount of data per month was around 100GB. While 100GB is an exceedingly high amount for many people, it’s less likely that there are going to be as many that are exceeding the 200GB mark, and it leaves many who are between 100GB and 200GB free and clear to continue using their data as they see fit. Having said that, it’s being stated that some customers are receiving these notices from Verizon to migrate even if they haven’t reached anywhere near this limit amount that’s been set, so it’s entirely possible that some customer have mistakenly been sent out the request to migrate off of unlimited data and to a new plan. Those who are using more than 200GB per month and don’t migrate by Verizon’s listed date will be moved off of the plans by Verizon, so customers will want to make the change themselves so they have at least some control over what happens.
